Jonathan Davies is the founder and director of TEFL Toulouse. He grew up in the 70’s in Exeter in south west England, in the 80s he DJ’d in rock clubs, went to London to work in a record shop and then survived 6 months as a cycle courier there. Aged 22 he finally did a degree in French and Spanish, and loved every second of it. In the 90’s he did a postgraduate qualification to become a TEFL teacher in UK schools, but missed the southern European way of life, and he ended up working as a TEFL teacher in France and Spain. He began to train new TEFL teachers in 2001 in Barcelona and opened TEFL Toulouse in August 2009, so this August we are celebrating our 10th birthday – by offering one lucky August trainee their course fees refunded!
Jonathan, since doing his Certificate in TEFL qualification and a PGCE in Modern Languages and TEFL at Bristol University, now has nearly 30 years of experience teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in France, Spain and the UK. He first fell in love with Toulouse during his 6 months as an exchange student in 1991, so he was thrilled to return to the city 18 years later to offer what has become the biggest and best known TEFL course in the South of France.
Fed up with paperwork and discipline problems in UK schoolteaching, Jonathan decided to move to southern Europe to teach English, and began to give seminars about how to manage classrooms full of teenagers to inexperienced TEFL teachers during his time teaching at the British Council in Barcelona.
In the early 2000’s Jonathan decided to take a break from teaching English for a few years, and became an Educational Tour Director for American high school students, taking groups of 50 or more people at a time around France and Spain, so he knows these two countries inside out and can give endless advice on places to do and things to do once you are based in Toulouse!
Jonathan is very enthusiastic about road cycling, music, food, coffee, wine and restaurants. He is a great fan of Toulouse and weekend trips to the surrounding regions. Who better to welcome you to La Ville Rose!
