For this task, I worked with Kamal, Emilie, and Patricia. We went through all of the examples that you posted on the forum, and we all gave corrections for each error. I feel like this task went really well. Not every error could be corrected the same way. For example, there are some errors that are better explained on a white board rather than showing the error with your fingers. In addition, we talked about how correcting an error depends on your circumstances. For example, if one person is making the error vs. the whole class, this would change how you would correct them. It was nice being able to speak with you all! Have a great Sunday.

I did this task with my husband who is learning English, so he is the perfect person to help me with this. I taught him the present simple for everyday habits. I feel like this went overall pretty well. I did everything in order, and I wrote it all out before hand so that I knew exactly what to say and what to write on the board, and I felt like I was clear. He understood the sentences and the meaning. This was a good lesson because he struggles with the difference between the present continuous and the present simple. With that being said, he did a great job, and I think it was a helpful mini-lesson for both of us!

I will do #1 the present simple:)

The zoom call went great, it was nice to meet everyone.
– I wish that I did not overthink writing these instructions so much! I feel like the more I overthink, the more "wordy" my instructions are.
– On a positive note, going over our models as a group was helpful. Hearing how others give instructions, makes me reflect on how I can improve giving directions. -
I agree with your point here Kamal. Some errors are easier to correct than others, whereas other errors require different guidance in order to correct a student in a way that they will understand and remember.

That is so sweet that you did this with your daughter, and it is even better that she enjoyed learning about it! It is good too that you used examples that are relevant to her interests.

For this task I decided to teach my husband. I taught my husband how to putt. Today was the perfect day to teach him because it was beautiful outside. For the materials, I used a putter, a golf ball, and the putting green at the golf course. To ensure that he understood, I went step by step starting with how to hold the club. He already knows how to hold a club so that part was review for him. I modeled the placement of the club, and the stance. He copied my movements. Next, I showed him how to “swing” the club. I made sure to clarify that it is never a full swing! He practiced the movements of the club. After practicing the swing, we added the golf ball. It was important for me to explain ball placement, and to show him the marks on his putter so that he is able to aim. Lastly, it was time for him to actually practice with the ball! This was a fun lesson, my husband enjoyed learning how to putt!
